I've remastered and released 'Bump
In The Night' on CD for the first time, and you can hear it here
The cover painting and comic strip
inside were painted and inked by Gary Panter, and I'd send him
a copy in a New York minute but I don't have his address. He should
see his brilliant artwork again!
I'm very proud of this album,
and I think it sounds fantastic
Judge for yourself by clicking on the cover shot to hear some
of the tracks
This was the original Bump Band,
and featured Johnny Lee Schell on guitar, Ricky Fataar on drums
Ray Ohara on bass and Lord Hounslow on guitar and keyboards, AND
Ronnie Wood on bass & guitar
on 'Little Girl', Bobby Keys on tenor on 'Not Running Away' and
Renee Geyer on 'Boy's Gonna Get It'
We had more fun than should legally be allowed.
For all the 'Wham bam thank you Ma'am' hit this

Here's a taste
of one track because you've been so nice, but there's more on
the Nice noises page below
This is not a
'Best Of' album and it's not a British CD, as it was recorded
in Texas
where I live, and anyway the title refers to my Dad, a British
skating champion of
the 1920's. He really was the best. That's him at the starting
line in the photograph.
I recorded it
with Don Harvey, 'Scrappy' Jud Newcomb and Sarah Brown,
the BUMP BAND members I had been playing with since I moved to
Austin,
Texas in 1994. It was produced by Gurf Morlix and he turned out
to be the
missing ingredient. Ronnie Wood and Billy Bragg joined the party
late in the
session, and as they brought their own beer, we welcomed them
aboard and
drank ourselves into quiet corners, where things went all soft
and dark.... zzzzz
As I mentioned
above the album title refers to my Dad, Alec McLagan, who as
British speed skating champion in 1928 was quite literally the
'Best of British'.
That's him in leather boots and wooden wheels in the picture.
The stupendous
MANIAC Records released it in the UK in February, 2000, and GADFLY
Records
released it in the USA and Canada, and we sold a few copies hither
and thither
HYPERTENSION naughtily
changed the title to 'TURN FACES' when they put it
in stores in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Holland. Well,
it's the same music
anyway, and hopefully it turned heads, though what they intended
is anybody's
guess. It also features psychedelic cover art. Now that's scary!
Did your head
turn? No, nor did mine. It's an awful cover
DREAMSVILLE Records
put out a special version in Japan with an additional
track 'LAST CHANCE TO DANCE'. This is not the same recording that's
on my
1985 EP of the same name that disappeared off the face of the
earth. No, this
features a blistering solo from 'SCRUMPY' JUD NEWCOMB the man
himself.

But here's a little
taste of 'Warm Rain' to whet your appetite
AND... there's
Best of British t-shirts, my book, Small Faces CDs and a talking
donkey.
OK, there's no donkey, but there is a funny smell in the back
yard and no one's owning up!
Anyway, why not
settle back, pour yourself a swift one and listen to some of
the tracks.
Just go to Nice noises below and check them out. That's Billy
Bragg and me singing to
my son Lee on the title track of Best of British, and Ronnie
Wood and me singing to our
old mate Ronnie Lane on 'Hello Old Friend'. If you click on Majestic
Modelling below, you
can buy any of the CDs or a 10% share in a talking donkey...
Alright, there is no
donkey, but something around here don't half pong, and I'm not
talking ping pong here!
All the best,
Now here's how you get
